DESCRIPTION

In 2018 election cycle, media, advocates and pundits speculated on what degree of voter turnout would occur, in particular for Latinos, Asian Americans and young people. Voter turnout in California’s 2018 general election was the highest since 1982. But to what extent was higher turnout seen for differing geographies across California and for the state’s historically underrepresented groups? Did the 2018 election actually produce a more representative electorate?

Dr. Mindy Romero, Director of the California Civic Engagement Project (CCEP), will present new CCEP analysis of 2018 voter data, diving deep into statewide participation by race/ethnicity, age and geography. She will discuss lessons to be learned from the 2018 election and share insights related to achieving the goal of a fully representative California electorate.

Admission to this event is free with RSVP, and lunch will be served during Dr. Romero’s presentation.
