DESCRIPTION
Sergent Garcia brings his mix of salsa-fueled energy and global sounds to the Mezzanine in San Francisco on July 13rd. Opening by local favorites Bayonics and Bang Data. Sponsored by: KALX 90.7 & KPFA 94.1
Sergent Garcia, an original figure in the Latin Alternative and European mestizo music scenes, is returning to North America with a burning live show a new album out on the Cumbancha label titled Una y Otra Vez (Time and Time Again). A pioneer in blending the fiery Caribbean sounds of salsa, reggae, ska and dancehall with a punk attitude and continental style, Sergent Garcia’s latest musical adventure finds him traveling to Colombia to dive into what is currently the epicenter of some of the world’s hottest sounds. Una y Otra Vez marks this former rocker’s return to his independent roots and renewed creative energy.
“Fans of Manu Chao will find Sergent Garcia immediately recognizable: insistently catchy reggae and salsa rhythms, sing-song rap, horn riffs propelling the whole mix.” – Financial Times (UK)
Bayonics: This 10-piece powerhouse band combines elements of salsa and reggae with hip hop, funk and r&b to create a soundscape that reflects the face of urban music and culture in the Bay Area. Bayonics have shared the stage with international touring acts ranging from Ozomatli and Katchafire to Wu-Tang Clan and Mos Def.
Bang Data: Straight out of the Bay Area in early 2008 Bang Data was born, bringing you a mix of slick and melodic guitar, gritty synth & bass, over banging electro-acoustic rhythms; making this the perfect canvas for Deuce Eclipse’s bilingual rhymes and melodies. Bang Data’s sound is a mash-up of styles combining hints of Latin, Reggae, Hip-Hop & Rock triggering memories of music we once grew up with yet offering a futuristic vision of Latin Alternative music.
